about the firm

burnett & williams history

Burnett & Williams was founded as the result of personal injury law becoming increasingly complex and in a time when general practitioners were finding it increasingly difficult to provide quality representation to personal injury clients. The changing intricacies of insurance and medical issues made it very difficult to remain current and effective against insurance companies with full-time defense attorneys and staff whose sole purpose is to minimize compensation and maximize corporate profits. To overcome these challenges, Peter Burnett limited his general law practice of 10 years to personal injury cases and started Burnett & Williams in 1988 with Barbara S. Williams, who is no longer with the firm.

In nearly two decades of personal injury specialization, Burnett & Williams has achieved notable verdicts, settlements, and appellate results in cases arising from wrongful deaths, medical malpractice, tractor trailer accidents, traumatic brain injuries, defective products, serious orthopaedic injuries,
and other significant injuries. This specialization and the consequent investment in time and resources in each case have been instrumental in our ability to obtain full compensation for our clients.

Burnett & Williams is now one of the oldest and most experienced personal injury firm in Virginia with offices in Leesburg, Midlothian, Hopewell, Richmond, and Winchester. The firm continues to grow as we add new locations, talented and experienced attorneys, and dedicated staff.

TESTIMONIALS

"I have been nothing but impressed with Mr. Burnett's services and professional conduct." - O.B.

My sincere thanks for your generous and informative counsel. You have totally “renovated” my opinion of lawyers. -I.O.

You were straight-forward, open and honest about my situation. It was exactly what I needed. -P.G.

"Through their remarkable skills of research, appellate writing and oral argument, Peter and Don were able to have the Supreme Court withdraw their published decision and grant a rehearing, which was the first time they have vacated a published opinion since 2000." - J.R. Attorney

“I received your letter regarding your recommendations for insurance. It is very informative and helpful. I have forwarded it onto all of our employees (~ 25). I learned about the importance of underinsured motorist insurance the hard way. My father was involved in a collision with a motorist with $25K coverage. His hospital bills were around $500K. Needless to say he had no underinsured motorist insurance.” -R.S.
